Rankings

Pick a state and a level. Each page holds several tables, one per official measure, so you can see a school's size, attendance and intake alongside any published results.

What the tables cover

  • Attendance rate Share of school days attended by enrolled students in the latest published year. Attendance tracks engagement and wellbeing, not academic results.
  • Most improved attendance Change in attendance rate over three years, in percentage points.
  • Fastest growing enrolments Change in total enrolments over the last five years. Growth usually follows new housing or a change in reputation; check the profile's history.
  • Largest schools Total enrolments in the latest published year.
  • Highest ICSEA ICSEA measures the educational advantage of the families a school serves. It is not a performance measure; it explains much of what results lists show.
  • Most language diversity Share of students with a language background other than English.
  • VCE study scores of 40 and above Share of VCE study scores at 40 or higher (top ~9% statewide) in the latest year. Selective-entry and high-ICSEA schools dominate by design.
  • VCE completion rate Share of students who satisfactorily completed the VCE.
  • Completed four or more ATAR courses Share of Year 12 students completing four or more ATAR courses, a proxy for university-bound cohorts.
  • GATE minimum entry scores Latest published minimum entry score for the school's Gifted and Talented program. Higher means more competitive entry.

How we rank

Where a state publishes school-level senior results, the first list orders schools on that state's own headline figure (median VCE study score in Victoria, WACE achievement in WA, and in NSW only the top-10% list the law allows). Every other table is a single official measure ranked on its own. We do not blend measures into a composite score, because they describe different things.

Two cautions apply to every list. First, results follow family advantage: compare a school with its similar-ICSEA peers before judging it. Second, small cohorts swing: a school testing 20 students can jump 100 places on one strong year. Full methodology.
