About Charles Sturt University
Charles Sturt University is a public university serving regional New South Wales and beyond. It was created in 1989 by merging the Mitchell College of Advanced Education with the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education, and was set up as a federated network with semi-independent campuses under a central administration.
Its heritage is older than the university itself: the Bathurst Experiment Farm, opened in 1895 to teach agriculture, is regarded as the start of its story, and Wagga Wagga and Albury-Wodonga also grew from earlier colleges and distance education centres. Orange, which began as an agricultural college in 1973, joined after a transfer from the University of Sydney in the mid-2000s, and Port Macquarie opened in 2012. The university is known for distance education and for study areas tied to rural and regional communities, and it is a member of the Regional Universities Network.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
