About Federation University Australia
Federation University Australia is a public dual-sector university in regional and outer-metropolitan Victoria, offering both higher education and TAFE. Its oldest roots lie in the Ballarat School of Mines, founded in 1870, which became the University of Ballarat in 1994. It later merged with TAFE institutes, including the Wimmera Institute of TAFE, giving it its vocational component.
On 1 January 2014 the University of Ballarat joined with the Gippsland campus of Monash University, whose own lineage runs back to Yallourn Technical School in 1928 and the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, to create Federation University Australia under a 2013 Act of the Victorian Parliament. Later, it took over Monash's Berwick campus in Melbourne's south-east. Its campuses are in Ballarat, Gippsland, Berwick and the Wimmera, and its Ballarat history includes mining, engineering and technical education. It is a member of the Regional Universities Network.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
