About Griffith University

Griffith University is a public university in South East Queensland. It was created by the Queensland Parliament through the Griffith University Act of 1971, but did not begin teaching until 1975, when it opened at Nathan in Brisbane with four schools. It was named after Sir Samuel Griffith, a Queensland premier and the first Chief Justice of the High Court.

Expansion followed in the early 1990s, with the Mount Gravatt College of Advanced Education joining in 1990 and other institutions and campuses added over the following years; the Logan campus opened in 1998. It now operates five campuses, at Nathan, Mount Gravatt, South Bank, Logan and the Gold Coast, and a further central Brisbane site is planned. Griffith is known for cross-disciplinary teaching and for research areas such as environmental science, health, creative arts and criminology, and it belongs to the Innovative Research Universities group.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
