About Macquarie University
Macquarie University is a public university in Sydney, named after Governor Lachlan Macquarie. It was created by an act of the New South Wales Parliament in 1964 as the city's third university and first admitted students in 1967.
Its single main campus covers about 126 hectares in Macquarie Park and North Ryde, roughly 16 kilometres north-west of the city centre. The grounds include a private teaching hospital, Macquarie University Hospital, and a railway station, which is unusual for an Australian campus. The surrounding Macquarie Park area is a business and technology precinct. The university teaches across arts, science and engineering, business, medicine and health, and law, and is known for linguistics and cognitive science. It publishes the Macquarie Dictionary, a reference work on Australian English, and runs a large student exchange and global leadership program.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
