About Monash University
Monash University is a public research university in Victoria, created by state legislation in 1958 following the Murray Report on Australian universities. It was named after Sir John Monash and was the first Australian university named after a person rather than a place. Its first campus is at Clayton in Melbourne's south-east, where teaching began in March 1961 under inaugural Vice-Chancellor Sir Louis Matheson.
A 1990 merger with the Chisholm Institute brought in the Caulfield and Peninsula campuses, and a 1992 merger with the Victorian College of Pharmacy added Parkville. Overseas, it runs a campus in Malaysia and has had a presence in other countries. The university is known for medicine, pharmacy, engineering and a wide range of research programmes, and is a member of the Group of Eight.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
