About RMIT University

RMIT University is a public university in Melbourne with roots in vocational and technical education. It was founded in 1887 by Francis Ormond as the Working Men's College of Melbourne, a night school for art, science and technology. It became a university in 1992 after joining with the Phillip Institute of Technology, and it still carries the Royal prefix.

The main City campus is in central Melbourne, with further campuses at Bundoora and Brunswick and training sites at Point Cook and Bendigo. Overseas, it has campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam and a research centre in Barcelona. RMIT is a dual-sector institution, teaching both higher education and vocational courses. It is known for applied research and teaching in design, art, architecture, engineering, computing and business, and is a founding member of the Australian Technology Network of universities.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
