About Swinburne University of Technology
Swinburne University of Technology is a public university in Melbourne that also teaches vocational courses. It began in 1908 as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College in Hawthorn, a community-owned school driven by the businessman and politician George Swinburne, after whom it is named. The state government took it over in 1913, and it became a university on 1 July 1992.
The main campus is at Hawthorn, with Wantirna and Croydon campuses focused mostly on vocational and trades training. It has an overseas campus in Sarawak, Malaysia, and a presence in Parramatta in Sydney. Swinburne is known for engineering, science and technology, design and innovation, and aviation, including pilot training within degrees. It also houses the Swinburne Film and Television School, which offered a tertiary filmmaking course from 1966, and the National Institute of Circus Arts. Swinburne Online provides online study.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
