About University of Divinity

The University of Divinity is a specialist university for theology and related fields, made up of a collegiate group of theological colleges from several Christian denominations. It began in 1910 as the Melbourne College of Divinity under an act of the Victorian Parliament, set up by representatives of the churches to provide degree-level theological education. It started operating as a university under its present name on 1 January 2012.

Administration is based at Box Hill in Melbourne, and teaching takes place across the member colleges, which are located in Melbourne and in other cities including Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. It awards degrees in theology, ministry, philosophy, counselling and related disciplines, with research degrees also offered. The university positions itself as a national collegiate institution, so students are generally enrolled through one of its colleges rather than on a single central campus. It is one of two large theological college groupings in Australia.

World ranking history

University of Divinity does not appear in the THE, ARWU, QS world rankings we track. These rankings mostly measure research volume and reputation, so smaller, specialist and teaching-focused universities are often not listed.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
