About the University of Queensland
The University of Queensland is a public research university and the oldest university in the state. It was established by an Act of the Queensland Parliament in 1909 and began teaching in 1911 in Brisbane's Old Government House, before moving in the 1930s to a permanent site at St Lucia on the Brisbane River.
St Lucia remains its main campus. The university also has a campus at Gatton, west of Brisbane, focused on agriculture, veterinary science and food, and a medical and health precinct at Herston alongside major hospitals. Its research covers areas such as biotechnology, health and medicine, engineering, and environmental science, and it hosts a number of research institutes and museums open to the public. It describes a commitment to a Reconciliation Action Plan and to sustainability, and it is a member of the Group of Eight.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
