About the University of Sydney
The University of Sydney is a public research university and the oldest in Australia. It was established by the University of Sydney Act, signed in October 1850, and was inaugurated in October 1852 in a building that is now part of Sydney Grammar School. It received a Royal Charter in 1858 and by 1859 had moved to its present site in Camperdown.
The Camperdown and Darlington campus is its largest, and the university's address is on City Road. Elsewhere, its Camden campus south-west of Sydney is home to veterinary science and agriculture, including a veterinary teaching hospital. The university describes its mission in terms of leadership for the public good and operates a broad range of research centres, museums and collections. Its sandstone quadrangle is a well-known landmark, and it is a member of the Group of Eight.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
