About University of Tasmania
The University of Tasmania is the island state's public university and one of the older universities in Australia, founded in 1890. Its residential Christ College, which has a longer history, dates from 1846.
The university runs campuses across the state. In the south, it is based in Hobart at Sandy Bay, with a medical sciences precinct and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies. In the north, it has campuses in Launceston at Inveresk and Newnham, along with the Australian Maritime College. A north-west campus is at Burnie, and a campus at Rozelle in Sydney teaches nursing and paramedicine. The university is known for research in marine and Antarctic science, climate and sustainability, along with agriculture, maritime engineering and health. It also has a residential college system and hosts the secretariat of the International Antarctic Institute.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
