About University of Wollongong

The University of Wollongong, often shortened to UOW, is a public university on the New South Wales south coast. Its website says it was founded on donations from local people with a vision of a brighter future for the region. Its history begins in 1951, when a division of the New South Wales University of Technology was set up in Wollongong to train engineers and metallurgists for the steel industry. It later became a college of the University of New South Wales before gaining independence in 1975, and in 1982 it merged with a local teacher-education institute.

The main campus is in Wollongong, and an Innovation Campus nearby links research and industry. The university teaches at several other sites on the NSW coast and in Sydney, including Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, Sutherland, Liverpool and the Sydney CBD, and at international locations.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
