About UNSW Sydney
UNSW Sydney is a public research university in Sydney. It was established in 1949 as the New South Wales University of Technology, to meet demand for scientists and engineers after the war, with classes beginning in 1948, and took the name University of New South Wales in 1958. It belongs to the Group of Eight.
The main campus is at Kensington in Sydney's eastern suburbs, where most faculties are based. UNSW Art and Design is in Paddington, and UNSW Canberra operates at the Australian Defence Force Academy. A pilot city campus on George Street opened in 2025. The university is known for engineering, science, medicine and health, business, law, and built environment, with a technology emphasis rooted in its origins. It runs a trimester academic calendar, and its research includes cancer and solar energy, with a student-built solar car and a robotics team that compete internationally.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
