About Victoria University
Victoria University is a public dual-sector university based in Melbourne's west, offering both TAFE and higher education. It traces its history to Footscray Technical School, which opened in February 1916 and later became Footscray Technical College and then the Footscray Institute of Technology. A 1990 Act of the Victorian Parliament created Victoria University of Technology, which began operating as a university in 1992, and in 1998 it merged with the Western Melbourne Institute of TAFE.
Its campuses are in Melbourne, including Footscray Park, with additional locations in Sydney and Brisbane. Its website describes it as one of only a small number of Australian universities with both vocational and higher education, allowing students to move from certificates and diplomas through to degrees and postgraduate study. It also adopted the VU Block Model, in which students study one unit at a time, and operates an Indigenous academic unit named Moondani Balluk.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
