About Western Sydney University
Western Sydney University is a public university serving Greater Western Sydney. It was founded on 1 January 1989 as the University of Western Sydney, a federation formed from the Nepean College of Advanced Education and the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, with the Macarthur Institute of Higher Education joining soon after. The federated colleges were merged into a single multi-campus university around 2000, and the present name was adopted in 2015.
Its campuses are spread across the region, including Parramatta, Penrith, Campbelltown, Bankstown, Blacktown, Liverpool, Hawkesbury at Richmond, and a city site in Sydney. An overseas campus opened at Surabaya in Indonesia in 2023. The university is known for its regional engagement, an Indigenous education centre, a medical school established in 2007, and research strengths such as the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment, forensic science, and interpreting and translation training at Bankstown.

Ranks as published; bands such as 301–350 are not exact places, and "=" marks a tie. "In Australia" is the position among Australian universities in the same edition; universities sharing a band or a tie share a position. Each ranking measures different things, mostly research, and none of them is combined here. *Our copy of QS 2027 covers ranks 1–300 only.
